Autumn species

The Park seems to pulse with autumn colours and sounds. Mountain glens echo with the roars of red deer stags. The oak and birch woodlands turn the hillsides shades of ochre and chocolate. For some species this is the time for breeding and giving birth. Grey seals pup on rocky skerries, while salmon and trout return to their home rivers to spawn. Geese are also returning from their northern breeding grounds to winter in the relative warmth of our Scottish winters. Yet for others this is the time to leave the Park and head south to Africa for the winter.

Here are some of the species that are at their most exciting in the autumn:

Salmon

Trout

Grey seal

Red deer

Oak

Birch
